The Ministry of Health has expanded an ongoing recall of infant formula products following concerns about possible contamination linked to one of the ingredients used in their production.
Authorities announced that NAN Optipro 1 infant formula has been added to the list of withdrawn products after a potential risk was identified involving cereulide, a toxin associated with the bacterium Bacillus cereus. The affected product is sold in 800-gram containers, specifically those bearing batch number 51210346AB with a best-before date of November 2026.
The Ministry confirmed that all products distributed in Cyprus that fall under this recall have been withdrawn on a voluntary and precautionary basis by the manufacturer. The move is intended to protect public health while investigations continue.
This latest addition follows an earlier recall announced on 8 January, which included several other infant formula products. Those initially affected were S-26 GOLD 1 (400g), NAN EXPERTpro Sensitive Plus (400g), and NAN EXPERTpro Lactose Free (400g), each linked to specific batch numbers and expiry dates.
Consumers who have purchased any of the affected batches are strongly advised not to use them for infant feeding. The Ministry has instructed parents and caregivers to return the products to the retailers from which they were bought.
Health authorities have emphasized that their investigation remains ongoing. They also noted that if further products, particularly those imported through unofficial or parallel channels, are found to have entered the Cypriot market, additional announcements will be issued.
The Ministry further urged individuals who purchased infant formula online from retailers or websites based outside Cyprus to carefully check their products to determine whether they are included in the recall.
