Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding injuries sustained by a 76-year-old nursing home resident, following a complaint from his daughter, CNA stated.
According to Assistant Police Operations Director Michalis Nikolaou in Paphos, a woman reported to the Polis Chrysochous police station on the evening of December 7, 2024, that her father, a resident at a local nursing home, had suffered injuries. She expressed concerns about possible abuse at the facility.
The elderly man was hospitalized at Polis Chrysochous Hospital, where a medical examination on December 6 revealed external injuries and a fractured nasal bone. He was discharged later that day and returned to the nursing home. However, on December 7, he experienced additional health issues, including fever, and was readmitted to the hospital, where he was diagnosed with an unrelated medical condition.
Further investigation revealed independent testimony indicating that the man may have been injured in an accident around 2:00 AM on December 6, when he allegedly attempted to leave the nursing home.
The case remains under police investigation, and a forensic examination is planned to verify the daughter’s claims of abuse and determine whether the man’s injuries were solely the result of the reported accident or if other factors were involved.
The Deputy Ministry of Social Welfare has requested immediate updates on the incident.
According to a statement, the Ministry contacted the elderly man’s family as soon as the matter was reported and is closely monitoring his health. The statement confirms that the case is under police investigation, with the Ministry maintaining constant communication with law enforcement. The Social Welfare Services are awaiting the results of the investigation to determine appropriate next steps.
