Italian Navy frigate ''Luigi Rizzo'' arrives in Limassol for port visit

The flagship of Operation ''Mediterraneo Sicuro'' joins Cyprus in celebrating St. Nicholas, patron saint of the Cypriot Navy

The Italian Navy FREMM (European Multi-Mission Frigate) "Luigi Rizzo" has arrived in Limassol where she will spend a port visit for the next days, the Embassy of Italy in Cyprus announced.

ITS "Luigi Rizzo" is the flagship of the Operation “Mediterraneo Sicuro”, the mission lead by the Italian Navy aiming to ensure maritime safety and surveillance, strengthening the cooperation and the naval diplomacy, contributing to the stability of the Mediterranean Sea.

The frigate is a General-Purpose warship that has been delivered to the Italian Navy in December 2017, as the sixth FREMM of ten to be commissioned. She is fitted with the latest generation platform and combat systems based on state-of-the-art military and civil standards.

According to the Embassy, on December 6th, during the celebrations of St. Nicholas, patron saint of the Cypriot Navy, ITS "Luigi Rizzo" will be visible from land while anchored in front of the city.

The Ambassador of Italy to Cyprus, Federica Ferrari Bravo, will also take part in the celebrations at the ‘Lt. General Evangelos Florakis’ Naval Base in Mari.
