The USS Bulkeley (DDG-84), an Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer, has docked in Cyprus for a Thanksgiving liberty call. The U.S. Ambassador to Cyprus, Julie Fisher, welcomed the ship and its crew, acknowledging their efforts in maintaining stability and security in the Eastern Mediterranean. This visit underscores the ongoing U.S.-Cyprus partnership in promoting regional peace and cooperation.

Commissioned in 2001, the USS Bulkeley is named after Vice Admiral John D. Bulkeley, a World War II Medal of Honor recipient renowned for his heroism in the Pacific. The ship is equipped with advanced weaponry, including Tomahawk missiles and the Aegis Combat System, making it a formidable asset in naval operations. At 509 feet long and capable of speeds exceeding 30 knots, the Bulkeley has played a crucial role in combating piracy and responding to maritime crises worldwide.

Notably, the ship has a history of lifesaving missions, such as the rescue of sailors in distress in the Arabian Gulf and thwarting piracy off the coast of Somalia. Its crew remains dedicated to safeguarding international waters and supporting allied efforts globally.
