The Green Agenda Cyprus Summit, taking place on 19 May 2025 at the Hilton Hotel in Nicosia, will focus on strengthening Cyprus' commitment to the Green Transition and sustainable development. The conference aims to position Cyprus as a leading example of environmental responsibility and sustainability, contributing to the creation of a greener, more sustainable future for all.
Key speakers for this year's summit include Kostas Kadis, Byron Ioannou, and Antonia Theodosiou, each playing an essential role in driving forward green and sustainable development initiatives.
Kostas Kadis: "Impacts of Climate Change in the Mediterranean and the Actions Required to Reverse the Trend"
Kostas Kadis, Commissioner for Fisheries and Oceans, will deliver a keynote address on the urgent need to address climate change in the Mediterranean. His focus will be on the actions required to reverse the growing climate crisis in the region. Kadis has extensive experience in environmental policy, having served as Cyprus' Minister of Health, Minister of Education and Culture, and Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment. He has also contributed to Cyprus' reunification efforts as head of the Greek Cypriot side's Technical Committee on the Environment. A professor of biodiversity conservation at Frederick University, he has authored six books and over 50 scientific articles on environmental management, sustainability, and conservation.
Byron Ioannou: "Planning for Action: Building Climate-Resilient Cypriot Cities"
Professor Byron Ioannou, Director of the Department of Architecture and Urban Planning at Frederick University, will speak on the critical importance of planning for climate-resilient cities. With expertise in urban planning, architecture, and sustainable development, Ioannou has worked on issues such as climate-neutral design, housing, mobility, urban density, and public space. His award-winning projects on urban regeneration and public space design have earned him recognition both nationally and internationally. Professor Ioannou has also served as an expert in various national and international planning bodies and is dedicated to shaping cities that can withstand the challenges of climate change.
Antonia Theodosiou: "Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11): Rethinking Urban Life"
Antonia Theodosiou, a prominent architect and sustainability expert, will present on the future of sustainable urban living and communities. Specializing in ecological building and the restoration of architectural heritage, Theodosiou has contributed to a range of environmental and cultural heritage projects. She has worked on the Akamas Sustainable Development Project, collaborated with UNESCO, and participated in numerous European and educational projects on sustainable development. In addition to her architectural work, Theodosiou has played a key role in shaping Cyprus' rural tourism program and is an advocate for integrating sustainability with cultural preservation. She holds multiple leadership roles in international organizations, including the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) and the International Scientific Society for the Interdisciplinary Study of Ironstone Construction (SPS).
