A 12-year-old girl remains on a ventilator in the intensive care unit at Makarios Hospital after a drowning incident at a Larnaca beach that claimed the life of her mother.
The incident happened at around 6pm on Saturday at a Cyprus Tourism Organisation beach, where a family of five European nationals had been spending time.
Police were alerted after the mother and two of her three underage daughters encountered difficulties in the water.
The mother was brought ashore unconscious. Efforts were made to revive her, but she was pronounced dead.
The two girls were taken to Makarios Hospital for treatment because of the seriousness of their condition. The 12-year-old is currently intubated, while her 14-year-old sister is in serious but stable condition.
Police are investigating the circumstances that led to the incident.
