A male teenager was killed in a road accident on Wednesday when his moped collided head on with an oncoming vehicle in Limassol.
According to police, 17-year-old Alexander Markides was riding his moped on Tuesday night after midnight along Ilia Kannaourou Street, formerly known as Ypsonas-Limassol road.
Around 12:40am the teenager, who was described as a local Limassol resident, was going eastbound when he collided with a westbound SUV-crossover in the opposite lane, driven by a 27-year-old Greek Cypriot male.
Markides was rushed to the Emergency Room at Limassol General Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
Reports of "improper passing"
Local media said the car driver reportedly was trying to overtake another vehicle when the collision occured. Reports also said the man was administered a Breathalyzer test with initial results showing alcohol consumption within the legal limit.
Police said the circumstances of the collision were under investigation, while law enforcement officers were reportedly seeking video footage from nearby business establishments.
