Romanian national dies in hospital three weeks after road accident and head surgery

A Romanian man succumbed to his injuries on Thursday, three weeks after a road accident when his motorcycle collided with a vehicle in Nicosia.

According to the Cyprus News Agency, 24-year-old Romeo Daniel Tanase died on Thursday in Nicosia General Hospital’s intensive care unit.

Tanase was injured on September 15 in a road accident in Latchia, Nicosia district, when his motorcycle collided with a vehicle driven by a 29-year-old male. Police did not provide details over the collision including speed or whether the biker was weaing a protective helmet.

The accident took place in the morning, around 8:50am, when the car moving on Agiou Georgiou street crashed into the motorcycle, causing the biker to strike his head and have internal bleeding. Tanase was later found to have suffered subdural hematoma and had to undergo surgery.

Police told Knews on Friday there was no update on the crash investigation and no arrest warrants had been issued in connection with the case.

Nicosia police are carrying on with the investigation.
