A 34-year-old man was arrested Wednesday morning at Larnaca Airport after police discovered more than 22 kilograms of cannabis in his luggage, authorities said.
The arrest came as part of ongoing operations by the Anti-Narcotics Service (ANS) in collaboration with Customs to prevent illegal drugs from entering Cyprus through airports. The suspect was stopped for inspection after arriving on a flight from abroad.
Police said a total of 44 nylon packages containing cannabis, weighing roughly 24.5 kilograms, were found in his luggage. The man was taken into custody and is expected to appear before the Larnaca District Court later Wednesday, where a detention order will be sought.
The investigation is being handled by the Larnaca Division of the National Police Agency. Authorities did not release the man’s identity, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation.
This seizure marks one of the larger cannabis busts in recent months, highlighting the continued efforts of Cypriot authorities to curb illegal drug trafficking through the island’s main airports.
