Young man from Pakistan stabbed to death downtown Nicosia, two assailants captured on video

A young man was killed in a knife attack in downtown Nicosia on Sunday with police saying they arrested one suspect, while media reported that the incident was caught on tape.

According to police, officers were notified Sunday morning around 4:30am regarding a person lying unconscious on Rigenis Street near Solomou Square.

The victim was approached by two unknown men, who chased him down and stabbed him in the chest

The victim, described as 24-year-old Ahmed Bin Talib from Pakistan, was found dead following what was reported in the media as aggravated robbery in the early morning hours.

Local media said the victim was standing outside a place of business when he was approached by two unknown men, who reportedly tried to rob him.

The victim, who then tried to run away towards the Ledras shopping strip, was quickly chased down by the two assailants. One of the perpetrators, according to media reports, is believed to have pulled out a knife and stabbed Talib in the chest.

Police said a 22-year-old male suspect was arrested on premeditated charges in connection with the case. No information was immediately available regarding the nationality of the detained person or any other suspects.

Reports said at least parts of the incident were recorded by security cameras.
