Nicosia police say a local man was attacked in the eastern part of the capital Wednesday night, with reports saying robbery might have been behind the incident while shots were also fired.

An injured 28-year-old Greek Cypriot man, described by police as a Larnaca resident, was spotted in Pallouriotissa, an eastern borough of Nicosia, on Wednesday night.

Police said officers located the injured man in Pallouriotissa when he told them he was physically assaulted just before 9:30pm by a group of attackers.

According to the alleged victim, the attackers jumped on him and started hitting him on various parts of his body. In his complaint to police, he said a female also fired shots at him during the incident.

Police told Knews it was not immediately clear whether the alleged victim was actually targeted with a firearm.

Reports said the man was rushed to the Emergency Room at Nicosia General Hospital where he was treated for a broken nose, visceral cranium bone fractures, and scrapes on his back before being released.

During the attack, the perpetrators reportedly grabbed their victim’s mobile phone and car keys before fleeing the scene towards an unknown direction, using the alleged victim’s rental.

CID Nicosia is investigating the incident.
