A criminal court sentenced a man to a total of 35 years for taking part in two attempted murders in Larnaca and Ayia Napa.

According to local media, Charalambos “Hamburger” Chrysanthou, a 37-year-old Greek Cypriot from Paphos, was sentenced to a combined total of 35 years.

Chrysanthou was convicted on multiple charges including conspiracy to commit murder, attempted murder, unlawful possession of firearms, illegal carrying, and possession of explosives.

The judges in the case did not pass a life sentence, which would have made the convict eligible for parole after 12 years for one life sentence or 25 years for two life sentences.

According to local media, the 37-year-old man was also handed down a five year prison sentence for the rape of a woman in Paphos, but no details were made known. He also got two years for aggravated assault

Police prosecutors said Hamburger had cooperated with investigators and turned into state witness for the prosecution against lifer Demetris Mamalikopoulos, a Greek national who was convicted in another Ayia Napa quintuple murder case back in 2012.

Prosecutors said Hamburger conspired with Mamalikopoulos on two separate occasions, one in Larnaca in November 2019 agianst Constantinos “Mavros” Charalambous and the other in Ayia Napa in February 2020 against Costas Kritikos, a local businessman and former chairman Ayia Napa FC.

The judges in the case pointed out that the fact that nobody was killed in the two attempts could be attributed to “pure coincidence” given what they described as ruthlessness on Hamburger’s part.

In the Ayia Napa shooting, the perpetrator was seen in video footage outside the Liquid Café Bar on Krio Nero Avenue, firing 25 bullets into the establishment, wounding three men and one woman, just minutes after the intended target had sensed something was off and left the place.
