The man did not have identification documents with him at the time of the accident and nobody went to look for him

According to police, the man was attempting to cross the street late Wednesday night on Danaes avenue in Kato Paphos, when he was struck by an oncoming vehicle driven by a 32-year-old Greek national.

The man was admitted into the Intensive Care Unit at Paphos General Hospital, where doctors performed surgery and were said to be monitoring his condition closely.

The driver, who was described as a Paphos resident, was arrested while a Breathalyzer test showed zero alcohol in his bloodstream.

Media reports said the man on foot, later identified as a 61-year-old male, was trying to cross the road from a point which was not designated as a pedestrian crossing.

Authorities believe the victim is a tourist, possibly staying at a hotel in Paphos or Yeroskipou along the coastline. He did not have identification documents on him at the time of the accident and nobody went to look for him as of Thursday morning according to reports.
