Cypriot champion wins prestigious fan vote with over 26,000 votes

Marios Georgiou has once again made Cyprus proud, winning the Male Gymnast of the Year title in a vote organized by European Gymnastics. The Cypriot gymnastics star secured an impressive 26,260 votes (50.6%), topping the poll after six days of voting.

The Cyprus Gymnastics Federation celebrated the achievement, calling it another historic moment for Georgiou and the sport. "Marios continues to make us proud with his accolades and make history in gymnastics! Congratulations, Mario! Thank you to everyone who voted," the federation wrote on social media.

The Cyprus Sports Organization also praised Georgiou’s accomplishment, recognizing his dedication and talent. "Well done to Marios Georgiou, who continues to make history and leave his mark on Cypriot gymnastics!" they stated.

A Proud Moment for Cyprus

The recognition has drawn praise from across the country, including from President Nikos Christodoulides, who called it a milestone for Cypriot sports. "Athletes like Marios Georgiou are increasing the footprint of Cypriot sports and Cyprus internationally," the President said, highlighting the gymnast’s remarkable achievements.

Georgiou’s 2024 European Championship victory in Rimini, Italy, and his sixth-place finish at the upcoming Paris Olympics have already cemented his status as one of Europe’s top gymnasts. Now, this fan-voted award is yet another testament to his incredible talent and the admiration he has earned from supporters across the continent.
