Two men were found dead in their beds inside an office building in the Episkopi area of Limassol on Wednesday morning, with initial police findings suggesting they succumbed to carbon monoxide poisoning from a charcoal fire they lit to keep warm.
Authorities were alerted around 8:00 a.m., prompting an immediate response from the Limassol Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and local police. Upon arrival, officers discovered the lifeless bodies of the two men inside a room filled with heavy smoke. A lit fukou (a traditional charcoal heater) was found inside, still containing burning charcoal.
“The scene was secured, and initial examinations confirmed the men had no vital signs,” said Lefteris Kyriakou, head of the Limassol CID. “The person who found them reported that upon opening the door, the room was filled with thick smoke.”
Investigators believe one of the men had previously stayed at the office, while the second was a friend who had stayed overnight. Their identities have yet to be confirmed, but both were foreign nationals.
Authorities are continuing their investigation, with statements expected to be taken from individuals connected to the case. Further details on the cause of death will be determined following forensic examinations.
