A woman suffering from mental illness says she was raped twice by an elderly man who was a frequent visitor at her institution in Limassol.

According to local media, police have arrested an 85-year-old Cypriot male following allegations launched against him by a 31-year-old local woman who said he raped her.

The woman, described as a mental health patient at a local institution in Limassol, told investigators that the man raped her twice.

The alleged incidents took place last month, once in an apartment and another time inside a vehicle, where the man reportedly had sexual intercourse with the woman’s consent.

Police did not share details about the complaint but told Knews the suspect was facing charges of rape, indecent assault, and corruption of a person with lower cognitive abilities. He was later remanded in custody for five days on Thursday morning.

The suspect was said to have been visiting another person at the mental health institution where he met the alleged victim.

He reportedly denies any involvement in the case.
