Monday forecast: Cyprus swaps sleet for sizzle

Inland 32°C heat spike and hazy Monday horizons.

Newsroom

Happy Monday! Hopefully, you and the moms in your life had a lovely day yesterday, because Mother Nature is definitely turning up the heat as a belated gift. We are trading the 'May winter' for some proper pre-summer sizzle, thanks to a high-pressure system that really means business.

If you felt like it was getting a bit glowy out there, you weren't imagining it. Temperatures are hitting 32°C inland today, so if you’re heading back to the office, the air conditioning is about to become your best friend. The southeastern coasts are sitting at a comfortable 28°C, while the rest of the shoreline stays a bit fresher at 25°C. Even the mountains are joining the party at a balmy 24°C.

The sky will be mostly clear, though you might notice some thin dust drifting through the air and a few high clouds decorating the afternoon. The winds are staying weak to moderate, and the sea is being exceptionally polite, staying calm to slightly rough.

Tonight, the warmth lingers a bit into the evening with some medium and high clouds drifting across the moon. The winds will be variable and very light, keeping the atmosphere feeling soft and still. The sea remains calm, so it’s a perfect night for a peaceful evening walk to shake off the first-day-back-at-work blues.

The week ahead

Tuesday and Wednesday: The 'mostly clear' broken record continues. We’ll see periods of medium or high clouds here and there, but nothing that’s going to ruin your lunch plans. Temperatures aren't expected to move much, so expect the heat to stick around for a couple more days.

Thursday: We finally get a tiny bit of relief. A slight temperature drop is on the cards, which should bring us back down to those sensible seasonal averages. It’s not quite a cool down, but it’ll take the edge off the 30-degree spike.
