Nicosia activates crisis response as Israel-Iran tensions escalate

Cyprus prepares for possible humanitarian fallout, reaffirming its role as a stabilizing bridge between East and West.

Newsroom

In response to the latest Middle East crisis sparked by Israel’s missile strikes on Iran, Nicosia is sticking to its long-held stance that Cyprus serves as a humanitarian bridge between East and West. The attacks in the early hours of last Friday triggered alarm in the Cypriot capital, with officials expressing concern over the broader implications for regional security.

Cyprus activated its “Estia” plan, which provides support for third-country nationals during crises, both as a practical step to prepare humanitarian response mechanisms and as a signal that Cyprus remains firmly on the side of de-escalation and peace.

The National Security Council also convened an emergency session to activate state infrastructure focused on internal security and to coordinate efforts in case of a severe humanitarian fallout.
