Not quite the perfect crime

Two people suspected of various robberies in Larnaca were arrested, detained, released, then re-arrested...again.

By Renee Strouthou

Larnaca Police have arrested two suspects, aged 41 and 42, in connection with an attempted bank robbery in Kiti on June 19.

According to police, the two suspects arrived at a bank branch wearing masks and carrying bags, believed to have been intended for the stolen money. However, they fled the scene after the security doors failed to open.

The 42-year-old was arrested shortly before 11 a.m. on Monday, July 13, after a warrant was issued against him. The 41-year-old had already been taken into custody on Saturday, July 11, also following the issue of an arrest warrant.

In an ironic twist, police stated that the above suspects had previously been arrested for another attempted robbery, this time targeting a jewelry store, which occurred on the 6th of July. During this robbery, the suspects allegedly entered the shop with a gun pointed towards the 73-year-old owner. Consequently, when the owner tried to defend himself, the suspect allegedly struck him on the head, causing injuries that required hospital treatment. Yet, the victim was still able to drive out the perpetrator, leaving them empty-handed.

No word on how the suspects were released from their initial arrest.

Surprisingly, their crime spree did not end there. Both suspects were previously arrested for, this time, a successful attempt at stealing car license plates.

For now, the suspects remain in custody under investigation, but there is no word if they may be released again to further their life of crime.
