Roughly one in three Cypriot residents (33.2%) aged 16 and older say they cannot afford a one-week holiday abroad, according to a recent Eurostat survey.
Across the European Union, 27% of people report being unable to take a week-long vacation — a slight improvement from 2023, when the figure was 28.5%. The proportion has dropped significantly over the past decade, falling 10.6 percentage points since 2014.
Romania had the highest percentage of residents unable to afford such a trip at 58.6%, followed by Greece (46.0%) and Bulgaria (41.4%).
On the other end of the spectrum, the lowest rates were found in Luxembourg (8.9%), Sweden (11.6%), and the Netherlands (13.0%).
