Paphos Mayor Phedon Phedonos says he is facing coordinated attacks from a small but organized group with significant interests, but insists he won’t be intimidated.
“They don't scare me. On the contrary, they make me more determined to continue. I will be back,” Phedonos wrote in a social media post.
He warned that the unchecked activities of certain Forex-type companies could have severe consequences for Cyprus’s political and economic life, particularly those firms operating abroad while using Cypriot licenses and infrastructure.
“Much more is to come if the relevant authorities of our country do not wake up immediately,” Phedonos said. “Organized crime has once again found a field of operation in Cyprus, enabled by institutional tolerance, or, even worse, institutional indifference.”
He called on authorities to explain whether they are unaware of these issues or aware and choosing to remain silent.
“The coordinated attacks I am personally facing from a small but well-organized group with significant interests do not frighten me,” he wrote. “On the contrary, they fuel my determination to press on. I will be back.”
