A scooter rider is being sought by police after a woman and her young child were knocked to the ground in Limassol on Monday afternoon, leaving the toddler with serious head injuries.
The incident happened around 3:20 p.m. near 28th October Street, on a pedestrian crossing that cuts across a cycle path. According to police, a 43-year-old mother was crossing on foot while holding her one-year-and-four-month-old child when a scooter coming down the cycle path allegedly struck them.
Both fell to the ground, and the toddler suffered a serious head injury. The child was rushed first to a Limassol polyclinic and then transferred to Makarios Hospital in Nicosia, where doctors say the condition is serious but not life-threatening.
The scooter operator didn’t stay at the scene, and police are now trying to track him down. Investigators are urging anyone who saw what happened or who may know the rider’s identity to contact Limassol Traffic Police at 25-805252, the Citizen’s Hotline at 1460, or any police station.
The Limassol Traffic Police is continuing its investigation into how the collision occurred and why the rider fled.
