The police have announced their readiness to ensure security and maintain order during an event organized by Syrians residing in Cyprus. The gathering is scheduled to take place on Sunday afternoon (1:00 PM) at Limassol Marina and is in support of the "mujahideen fighting in Idlib and Aleppo" in Syria.
In a statement, the police emphasized their primary goal of maintaining law and order, as well as safeguarding public peace and safety. They assured that officers would be present at the venue to protect citizens, safeguard property, and facilitate traffic.
The statement further clarified that, should the event deviate from its intended peaceful nature and breach legal boundaries, "the police will intervene as required to restore order and ensure legality."
Meanwhile, sources from the Cyprus News Agency (CNA) report that authorities are prepared for potential reactions from citizens, including those expressed on social media, raising the possibility of a parallel counter-gathering opposing the protesters. According to the same sources, the Limassol Police Department has set up a Crisis Centre. Additionally, officers from the department, members of the Mobile Immediate Action Unit (MMAD), and the anti-riot vehicle "Aianta" will be on standby.
