Police probe possible poisoning after death and hospitalizations in Larnaca

Three people collapse during visit to support family of deceased man

What began as a routine visit to offer condolences has turned into a disturbing police investigation after a 78-year-old man died and four other people were hospitalized under circumstances that now point to possible poisoning.

Police in Larnaca are trying to piece together what exactly happened inside a home where tragedy unfolded over the weekend.

According to authorities, the chain of events began on Saturday, when the elderly man’s wife suddenly felt unwell and was taken to hospital, where she remains under medical care. Shortly afterward, her husband died at home.

The following day, friends and acquaintances went to the couple’s home to pay their respects. During the visit, however, events took a sudden and alarming turn.

Police said that while the group was having coffee, three people suddenly lost consciousness. All three were rushed to the hospital.

Two of them were treated with antidotes for suspected poisoning and are now in stable condition. The third person was admitted in a comatose state, though doctors say his condition is improving.

In total, five people, including the deceased man and his wife, are now linked to the same unfolding case.

Authorities have sealed off the house and placed it under police guard. Samples from the scene will be collected and sent for scientific analysis to determine whether something consumed inside the home caused the sudden health collapse.

Investigators say toxicology tests will be crucial in establishing what substances, if any, were involved, and whether the incidents are connected.

For now, the quiet Larnaca neighborhood is left with more questions than answers, as police work to understand how a weekend of mourning turned into a medical emergency and possibly something far more serious.
