President Christodoulides pushes forward with Gaza humanitarian efforts

Cyprus engages with US and Israel for Gaza aid initiatives

Newsroom / CNA

Our goal is not only to continue but also to increase humanitarian aid to Gaza, President of the Republic Nikos Christodoulides said in his statements on Tuesday, before an event of Anorthosis sports club on the anniversaries of March 25 and April 1 in Larnaca.

Asked about the continuation of the Amalthea initiative after the attack on the humanitarian organisation delivering the aid, the President of the Republic said that the Republic of Cyprus also condemned the attack on the organisation from the very first moment, adding that there is no justification for such a development.

He also said that the humanitarian needs in Gaza remain and the Republic of Cyprus' efforts will continue, adding that during his presence today at the Zenon Centre in Larnaca, he also had the opportunity to talk to US military officials in Cyprus in connection with the preparations being made for a temporary port in Gaza.

"I am glad because these efforts are at an advanced stage. We are also in contact with the Israeli government, we have expressed our dissatisfaction with what has been done. We are also in contact with the humanitarian organisation and I hope that soon humanitarian aid will not only resume but also increase because the goal is clearly for it to increase," he noted.
