Timelines set for progress review following Presidential intervention

Newsroom / CNA

President Nicos Christodoulides held a crucial meeting this morning with Health Minister Popi Kanari and Health Ministry Director General Christina Giannakis, aiming to address pressing health sector concerns and streamline government initiatives.

During the meeting, as reported by CNA, President Christodoulides underscored the need for close collaboration in executing the government's health sector plans and confronting challenges, a paramount priority for his administration. He made it unequivocally clear that any emerging issues will not be tolerated.

Sources reveal that the meeting delved deeply into specific objectives shaped after consultations with the OKyPY and HIO (Health Insurance Org). Key points of discussion encompassed the reorganization of the Health Ministry, enhancing internal oversight, and expediting the formulation of essential bills to further enhance services provided by the GESY (General Health System of Cyprus).

Notably, comprehensive timelines for implementation were established, and a subsequent meeting has been scheduled to review the progress achieved. This evaluation will take place ahead of President Christodoulides' trip to New York in mid-September for the UN General Assembly.

Given the magnitude of health challenges and the growing societal demands, a collaborative approach involving all stakeholders is imperative. Both the Health Minister and the Health Ministry Director General reaffirmed their commitment to this collaborative endeavor during the meeting with the President, according to sources.
