Cyprus is rushing to go solar, so fast, in fact, that the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) says it’s being flooded with applications for photovoltaic systems, especially under the government’s “Photovoltaics for All” scheme.
In an announcement on Friday, the EAC said the spike in demand is unlike anything it has seen before, calling it a “clear sign” that Cypriots are embracing clean energy and looking to produce their own electricity.
But with enthusiasm comes backlog. The surge has created a heavy workload for the teams who check and process applications, causing delays in both approvals and customer calls. The EAC admits its phone lines have been jammed in recent weeks, with many callers facing long wait times.
To speed things up, the authority is bringing in temporary staff to support its internal teams and help clear the pile-up. Officials say the extra hands, along with ongoing internal improvements, should start easing response times in the coming weeks.
The EAC added that it’s working closely with state authorities to keep the government’s energy plans on track and to make sure citizens investing in green solutions get the support they need.
“Our goal remains reliable, timely, and transparent service to all applicants,” the organization said, thanking the public for its patience and assuring that teams are “working intensively” to get everything back to normal as quickly as possible.
