Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar criticized the Greek Cypriot administration, claiming its unilateral actions are endangering the island of Cyprus. In a written statement, Tatar expressed concern over what he described as the Greek Cypriot leadership's reckless decisions, which he believes could make Cyprus a target in regional conflicts.
Tatar accused President Nikos Christodoulides of prioritizing his political ambitions by aligning with Israel, a country he claims is committing daily atrocities. He argued that Christodoulides is "under the illusion" of being a regional power, while in reality, he is participating in what Tatar called "a crime against humanity."
He warned that the Greek Cypriot administration's increased militarization and recent military exercises with Israel are escalating tensions. He also criticized the docking of a U.S. aircraft carrier in Limassol, citing it as an example of Cyprus being used as a "military outpost" by foreign powers.
Tatar reiterated that the Greek Cypriot government lacks the authority to make decisions that impact the entire island, emphasizing that its jurisdiction is limited to southern Cyprus as established 50 years ago. He also condemned the international community for remaining passive in the face of what he described as crimes against humanity in the region.
Tatar concluded by calling for a permanent ceasefire to end the ongoing violence and humanitarian suffering.
