The Monday minimum: A forecast that’s doing the least

Mountain showers and a notable lack of thermal ambition.

Newsroom

If you were hoping for a dramatic weather event to justify being late for your first meeting of the week, I have bad news. Today’s weak low-pressure system is about as energetic as a broken espresso machine.

Much like our collective productivity, the cloud cover will increase significantly after lunch. A few isolated raindrops might fall, but it’s unlikely to be the torrential downpour you need to get out of those Monday afternoon errands.

Winds are drifting in from the west at a lazy 3 to 4 Beaufort. The sea is slightly rough, mirroring that low-level "it's only Monday" irritability.

Temperatures are peaking at 22°C across the plains and the coast. Up in the higher mountains, it’s a shivering 12°C, so if you work in the peaks, hopefully your office heating is better than the sun's performance today.

By tonight, the clouds vanish, leaving us with clear skies and a sea that’s finally decided to behave.

The Tuesday-Thursday Stretch: The rest of the week is looking remarkably consistent. Tuesday through Thursday will be mostly clear, though the mountains will continue their daily ritual of gathering midday clouds and a few sprinkles. Temperatures aren't planning any big moves, staying just a notch below the usual April average. It’s calm and perfectly adequate, much like your approach to Mondays.
