Three months after a controversial video surfaced online, promising to expose political secrets, authorities are still “investigating” it, at least according to official statements.
Police spokesperson Byron Byronos told CNA that the case, first made public in early January, remains under review. “No official results have been obtained at this time,” he said, noting that the investigation is being led by an independent criminal investigator appointed by the attorney general.
The investigator, selected on January 13 with a three-month deadline, has yet to release findings. Mr. Byronos admitted he doesn’t know when the inquiry will wrap up or whether the video has been verified, edited, or examined by digital forensics experts.
“The main responsibility lies with the criminal investigator,” he said. “Police are assisting and cannot provide details about the stage of the examinations or the timeline.”
The video, published on the social media platform X by an account calling itself “Emily Thompson,” allegedly shows conversations involving political figures discussing funding and election-related activities. Authorities and the individuals featured quickly dismissed it as a dubious montage from a suspicious source.
As the three-month mark passes, the public is left to wonder: is it an intense investigation or just another case of bureaucratic inertia with a high-tech twist? Either way, the promised results remain elusive, and the video continues to stir debate online.
