A truck driver was killed in a highway accident in Larnaca on Wednesday when his vehicle veered off the road and hit a road sign, with police calling on the public to come forward if they have any information about the incident.
According to police, 65-year-old Stavros Panteli from Nicosia was driving a heavy truck on the Ayia Napa-Larnaca highway on Wednesday night.

The truck was moving westbound towards the Rizoelia roundabout interchange when it veered off the highway around 9:30pm, according to police. Under circumstances still pending investigation, the vehicle initially hit a road sign and then came to a stop on the side of the road.
Fire fighters who rushed to the scene managed to pull Panteli out of the vehicle. He was rushed to the Emergency Room at Larnaca General Hospital where doctors on duty pronounced him dead on arrival.
Police did not provide further details about the incident or the investigation but told Knews that a utility pole was also broken in half as a result of the crash.
Officials are also calling on members of the public to come forward if they have any information regarding the incident.
Panteli was a licensed truck driver according to police but it was not immediately clear whether he was on a work schedule at the time of the crash.
