The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a statement urging the United States to reconsider its policies, following the anchoring of the American destroyer USS Arleigh Burke in Cyprus. According to the statement, this move undermines the neutral stance maintained by the U.S. and hinders a fair, permanent, and sustainable solution to the Cyprus issue.
The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly supports the recent statement made by the "Ministry of Foreign Affairs" of the "TRNC" regarding the anchoring of the American destroyer USS Arleigh Burke in a non-military port. As emphasized repeatedly by the "TRNC," the destabilizing actions taken by the U.S. against the Turkish Cypriot side in the region undermine the neutral position that the country has maintained on the island for many years and pose an obstacle to a just and lasting solution in Cyprus, the statement notes.
Furthermore, the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs calls on the United States to review these policies. The statement reaffirms that the Turkish Republic, as a guarantor country in Cyprus, will decisively defend the legitimate rights and interests of the Turkish Cypriots under all circumstances and conditions.
