Daily new cases hit a new record high on Monday, when 416 cases were detected, while authorities announced two more coronavirus fatalities.

On Monday, two men aged 84 and 89, who were receiving treatment at the Famagusta general hospital, succumbed to the virus, raising the coronavirus death toll to 63.

Meanwhile, the 416 new cases detected on Monday raised total cases to 12,867, and emerged among 9,452 tests, of which 4,347 were PCR tests and the remaining 5,105 were rapid tests.

A total of 200 of Monday’s tests involve people who had previously tested positive to rapid tests, and whose infection was confirmed by a PCR test.

Overall, 144 were contacts, nine were arrivals to Cyprus airports, 48 were people who took the initiative to get tested, 10 were people who got tested at general hospitals, and five were people tested either as part of special health groups or upon the suggestion of their GP.

Cyprus hospitals are currently treating a total of 126 coronavirus patients, 20 of which are in critical condition.

68 patients are in the Famagusta general hospital, five of which are in the ICU. The Nicosia general hospital is also treating 25 patients, 13 of which are in the ICU where nine are intubated. 30 more coronavirus patients are at the Limassol general hospital, two of which are in the ICU. Three more are at the Makario hospital in Nicosia.
