Two Deaths and 206 new cases today

A total of 141 patients are treated in hospitals, of which 39 are in serious condition

The Ministry of Health today announced today (7th of September) the following:

- Two people died of COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 518.

- 141 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 39 are in serious condition.  80.15% of patientsare not vaccinated.

- 9 post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases), continue to be intubated in hospital Intensive Care Units.

- A total of 45,712 COVID detection tests have been performed with the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid detection method (antigen rapid test).

- 206 (positivity rate: 0.45%) new cases of COVID-19 disease were detected by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid test, bringing the total number of cases to 117,197.

A. Deaths from COVID-19 disease:

The two people who died with the cause of death attributed to COVID-19 are:

- A 67-year-old man, who ended up in the Intensive Care Unit of the Nicosia General Hospital on September 6.
- A man, aged 70, who ended up today in the Intensive Care Unit of the Limassol General Hospital.

Consequently, the total number of deaths caused by COVID-19 is 518, of which:

- 336 men (65%), and
- 182 women (35%).

The average age of those who die from the disease is 76.3 years.

B. Patients:

In total, 141 patients with COVID-19 are being treated in OKYPY hospitals, of which 39 are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 39 patients in serious condition, 18 are being intubated, three have been admitted to an intravenous intensive care unit and 18 to regular intensive care unit.

C. Positive cases COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 45,712 tests done today, 5,627 were done by the molecular method (PCR) and 40,085 by the antigen rapid test method. The result, 206 cases of COVID-19 were identified, which is broken down as follows:

• 32 cases from 280 samples received through the process of tracking contacts of already confirmed cases.
• 6 cases from 2,501 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
• 42 cases from 2,324 samples taken through the private sector.
• 8 cases from 248 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
• 2 cases from 270 samples received under the program of referrals by Personal Physicians and control of special teams through the Public Health Clinics.
• 92 cases from 29,484 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
• 24 cases from 10,601 samples examined by the method of antigen rapid test through the program of the Ministry of Health.

In addition, the following tests were performed, with negative results:

• 4 samples taken during the control of closed structures.
