Two additional bodies have been recovered from the sea near the site of the shipwreck off Kyrenia, bringing the confirmed death toll to 17.
The bodies were found approximately 1,000 metres from the wreck at a depth of around 570 metres, according to Turkish Cypriot “prime minister” Unal Ustel.
DNA testing is now underway to establish the identities of the victims. Ustel said relatives would be informed once the identification process is complete.
The latest recovery brings the number of people confirmed dead following the August 30 shipwreck to 17, while 11 people remain missing.
The vessel sank off the coast of Kyrenia on August 30, prompting an ongoing search operation for those still unaccounted for.
