A wildfire erupted Thursday afternoon in the Paphos district, specifically in the area between Polis Chrysochous and Skoulli. According to local residents, the fire is threatening homes in the vicinity.
The Cyprus Department of Forests reported that the fire is ongoing, with strong ground forces and four aircraft actively engaged in firefighting efforts.
In a statement to the Cyprus News Agency (CNA), Forestry Department official Mr. Ezekiel said that the forces are working to secure and control the fire. The efforts include three bulldozers from the Forestry Department, a bulldozer, five fire trucks, twenty employees and forest firefighters, four planes, and twelve firefighters, along with a farming tractor.
The cause of the fire will be investigated at a later stage, Ezekiel added.
Additionally, Ezekiel mentioned that another wildfire has broken out in the Pegeia area.
Authorities are urging residents to remain vigilant and follow any evacuation orders or safety instructions to ensure their safety.
