Woman found dead on Nicosia rooftop

Nicosia police rule out foul play in the death of a European female downtown

Police are investigating the death of a European woman whose body was found on the roof of a building in downtown Nicosia.

According to initial media reports, the body was discovered Wednesday morning by a group of workers who went up to the roof to carry out repairs. Reports also said a concerned citizen notified authorities, with police rushing to the scene along with a state forensic pathologist.

The building is on the corner of Pindarou and Skokou streets and houses on the second floor the youth branch of ruling party Dysi, which has its office headquarters in the adjacent building.

Later reports described the female as a 55-year-old Polish national who was possibly homeless and staying on the rooftop. An inhaler possibly for medical use was also found near the body, according to local media.

Police are investigating the incident and were said to have ruled out foul play, while a post mortem has been scheduled for Thursday.
