A woman gave birth in the restroom of a private hospital in Nicosia after arriving with abdominal pain and waiting to be seen by a doctor, according to hospital officials.
The incident occurred earlier this week when the woman visited the hospital’s emergency department, complaining of abdominal discomfort. She was asked to wait for her turn to be examined.
While waiting, she went to the restroom, where she unexpectedly delivered the baby.
The infant was later transferred to Makarios Hospital, which specializes in pediatric and neonatal care. The condition of the newborn has not been made public.
Health authorities have not released additional details about the mother or the circumstances of the birth.
