A 25-year-old woman has been sentenced to six months in prison after the Famagusta District Court found her guilty of possessing nitrous oxide, commonly known as laughing gas, and remaining in Cyprus without legal status.
The case stems from an arrest on 9 June 2026, when authorities discovered a metal canister, 64 unused nitrous oxide cartridges and 68 balloons in her possession. Officers also seized €100 in cash during the operation.
Further investigations established that the woman was living in the Republic of Cyprus unlawfully.
Following the court proceedings, she was convicted on both the controlled substance charge relating to nitrous oxide and the offence of illegal stay in the country, resulting in a six-month prison sentence.
