A 49-year-old technician is fighting for his life following a workplace accident in Strovolos on Thursday afternoon, after an air-conditioning compressor he was repairing exploded.
The incident occurred at around 5.30pm while the man was carrying out maintenance work outside a building. According to preliminary information, the compressor malfunctioned and exploded during the repair process, causing severe injuries to the worker.
Emergency medical personnel rushed the injured man to Nicosia General Hospital, where he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit. Doctors have described his condition as critical, and he remains intubated.
Police officers, firefighters and a representative of the Labour Inspection Department visited the scene to conduct examinations and gather evidence.
An investigation has been launched to determine exactly what led to the explosion. The inquiry is being carried out jointly by Nicosia Central Police Station and the Labour Inspection Department.
