A probationary police officer in Cyprus has been dismissed from the force following his arrest earlier this month over the alleged possession of anabolic substances, authorities said on Friday.
Police Chief Themistos Arnaoutis, with the approval of Justice and Public Order Minister Kostas Fitiris, decided to terminate the officer’s service, according to an official statement.
The officer had been arrested on June 4, 2026, after police discovered vials of anabolic substances, prompting an investigation into possible illegal possession and related offenses.
The dismissal was made under Article 17(1) of the Police Law of 2004 (Law 73(I)/2004), the statement said.
Police said the decision reflects a zero-tolerance stance on misconduct within the force.
“Phenomena of corruption, delinquent behavior, or abuse of power have no place in the police force," the announcement said, adding that tackling such issues remains a top priority for police leadership.
