Young biker killed in Limassol crash

Preliminary findings point to speed as a factor in the road death of 18-year-old male from Georgia

An 18-year-old man was killed in a Limassol traffic accident Saturday evening, when the motorcycle he was riding collided with another car on the main coastal road.

Authorities have released the name of the victim, Marios Amantidis from Georgia, who was riding his brother’s motorcycle around 7pm on the seafront main road when he attempted to overtake a car from the left.

Amantidis was riding in the right lane heading east when at one point, between Limassol Municipal Park and Enaerios, he lost control of the motorcycle and struck a vehicle ahead in the left lane.

The biker was forcefully ejected from his seat according to media reports and then crashed into a car that was parked on the left side of the road. An ambulance rushed the young man to the Emergency Room at Limassol General Hospital where doctors on duty pronounced him dead on arrival.

According to preliminary findings, speed was a factor in the accident while traffic police continue to investigate.
