Biker dies in Kalispera accident

Local man crashes motorbike minutes away from Nicosia hospital, dies in the ER

A 44-year-old man from Nicosia was killed in an accident Monday afternoon, when his motorcycle crashed onto a guardrail on the highway near the town’s state hospital.

Police say Demetris Andreou was riding his motorcycle southbound around 5:30pm near the south entrance point of Nicosia, known as the Kalispera traffic lights, when he lost control of motorbike.

Andreou, who appeared not to be wearing a safety helmet according to police, crashed his motorcycle on the guardrail and fell on the asphalt road.

He was rushed to the Emergency Room of the Nicosia General Hospital, which was nearby, where doctors attempted to treat his wounds but Andreou succumbed to his injuries.

Police are investigating the circumstances of the accident.
