From cement to furniture, Cyprus industry had a strong end of year

New data shows a clear boost in factory production across the island

Newsroom

Cyprus factories were busier than usual in November, and the numbers show it.

Industrial activity on the island jumped sharply last month, with production up 8.5% compared to November last year, according to fresh data from the Statistical Service of Cyprus. In simple terms: more things were being made, and at a faster pace.

The overall Industrial Production Index climbed to 111.2 points, continuing a steady upward trend. Looking at the bigger picture, industrial output for the first eleven months of 2025 rose 3.7% compared to the same period in 2024, a solid sign that the sector is gaining momentum.

The real engine behind the surge was manufacturing, which grew by nearly 10% in November. The biggest surprise came from non-metallic mineral products, things like cement, tiles and construction materials, which soared by an eye-catching 83.6% in a single month. Over the year so far, that sector is also up 13.3%, making it one of the strongest contributors to overall growth.

Furniture makers, repair workshops and other manufacturing activities also had a strong month, posting gains of just over 10%, while the wood industry followed closely behind with a 9.3% increase. Production of metal and metal products rose by nearly 9%, pointing to continued demand from construction and industry.

Not every corner of the factory floor was buzzing, though. Output slipped slightly in textiles, clothing and leather goods, as well as in paper and printing, both down 1.2%; small drops, but worth noting.

Beyond manufacturing, other sectors helped lift the numbers. Mining and quarrying recorded a sharp 32.5% jump in November, while water supply and recycling-related activities also moved higher. The one exception was electricity production, which edged down modestly during the month.

All told, the figures suggest Cyprus’ industrial sector is ending the year on a stronger footing, with factories producing more, demand holding up, and manufacturing once again proving to be a key pillar of the economy.
