The Ministry of Health has issued a stark warning after unauthorized Botox and Dysport products were discovered at beauty salons and medical clinics across Cyprus.
According to an official announcement, inspections by Pharmaceutical Services inspectors uncovered that a number of establishments were administering unlicensed injectable treatments, including Botox and Dysport, sourced illegally from outside the country’s approved supply chain.
“These products do not hold valid marketing authorization in the Republic of Cyprus,” the ministry stated, stressing that the use of such pharmaceuticals violates the country’s medicinal product laws.
While Botox and Dysport are commonly used for cosmetic and therapeutic purposes, their importation and administration must follow strict legal and safety guidelines. The ministry made clear that no shortcuts are allowed, even for popular treatments.
Health professionals were reminded that distributing or using any unapproved medicinal product is a criminal offense and could lead to prosecution, regardless of whether it occurs in a clinic or spa.
“Marketing, supplying or administering these products without proper approval is not just a regulatory violation; it’s a serious risk to public safety,” the ministry said.
The warning serves as a clear message to medical providers and beauty businesses: if it’s not licensed and locally approved, it’s illegal, and authorities are watching.
An investigation into the source and spread of these products is ongoing, and the ministry has urged the public to exercise caution and verify the legitimacy of any injectable treatments before undergoing procedures.
