Porsche has temporarily pulled some of its Taycan electric cars from UK showrooms due to concerns about potential battery fires. The Taycan, a luxury EV that launched in 2019, has been hit with several recalls over the years, and now, safety worries are putting the brakes on sales again.
This latest issue involves early Taycan models that could experience a short circuit in the battery during servicing, potentially leading to a fire. While Porsche plans to fix the problem with a free software update that better monitors battery health, dealers have been told not to sell 135 affected cars until the update rolls out later this month.
Until then, nearly 8,000 Taycan owners in the UK are being asked to limit charging to 80% and visit a Porsche dealer every 60 days for safety checks.
This isn’t the first bump in the road for the Taycan. The car has faced multiple recalls for everything from faulty brakes to sudden shutdowns—and one even caught fire in the middle of traffic in China last year.
Porsche insists the new software will catch future battery issues before they become dangerous, but for now, the luxury automaker is taking no chances as it races to keep drivers safe.
