Forecast: Sunshine holds on as showers and thunderstorms threaten Cyprus this week

Monday brings temperatures of up to 26°C, with morning mist and fog possible in some areas.

A weak low-pressure system is affecting the area. Not particularly dramatic, but enough to remind us that the weather, much like Monday morning motivation, can be a little unpredictable.

During the very early morning hours, low cloud and patches of mist or fog may have formed in some areas. So if your morning commute felt a little mysterious, it wasn't your imagination. Cyprus was briefly auditioning for a detective series.

Today: Occasional patches of mid and high cloud will cross the skies, although there should still be plenty of sunshine to enjoy. Winds will blow from the northeast to southeast, light to moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort, while the sea will remain calm to slightly rough.

Temperatures will reach around 26°C inland and along the coast, with a cooler 18°C in the highest mountains. Not bad for November. You could almost forget summer has packed its bags. Almost.

This evening: Skies will be mostly clear, giving us a pleasant end to the day. Winds will blow mainly from the north to northeast, generally light and occasionally locally moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort. The sea will be slightly rough.

Nothing too exciting. A quiet evening, which is more than can be said for most family WhatsApp groups.

Tuesday (tomorrow): The day will begin mostly clear, but don't put the washing out with complete confidence just yet. Cloud cover is expected to increase locally later, bringing isolated showers and even the possibility of an isolated thunderstorm.

The main areas to watch will be the mountains, inland areas and the southeast. So, while some people may enjoy another sunny afternoon, others could find themselves caught in a rather unexpected meeting with a raincloud. Nobody invited it, but there it is.

Wednesday and Thursday: More cloud is expected at times, bringing local showers on both days. Nothing suggests a complete washout, but keeping an umbrella nearby might be a sensible idea. Yes, even in Cyprus. We know it's an inconvenience.

Temperature outlook: Temperatures will remain relatively unchanged on Tuesday, staying slightly above the average for this time of year. A gradual, slight drop is expected on Wednesday and Thursday.

So enjoy the warmer conditions while they last. The temperatures are preparing to come back down to earth, much like everyone after a long weekend.

The bottom line: Monday offers pleasant temperatures and a mixture of sunshine and cloud, but showers and isolated thunderstorms could arrive from Tuesday, with unsettled conditions continuing into Thursday. A fairly comfortable start to the week, then a little reminder that autumn hasn't forgotten where we live.

Have a good Monday. And remember, if it rains tomorrow, you were warned. You can blame the weather, but not the forecast.
