Three-day event with visits, tours, and activities by the Department of Forests

Celebrating forests and promoting sustainability in honor of International Day of Forests

The Department of Forests is organizing a three-day event with activities, tours, and visits from March 21-23, 2025, in celebration of the International Day of Forests, which is observed on March 21.

As announced, the Troodos and Cape Greco Environmental Education Centers, as well as the Troodos Botanical Garden "A.G. Leventis," will be open to the public with free entry. The operating hours for the weekend will be from 09:00 to 17:00, and on Friday, from 08:00 to 17:00.

Additionally, guided tours will be held on five nature study trails across Cyprus. Anyone interested is welcome to join the tours.

In the Nicosia, Larnaca, and Famagusta Forest Districts, guided tours will take place on March 22 and 23 (08:30-10:00) on the nature study trail of the old village of Chelidonia. The starting point is the trailhead on the Lythrodontas road, at the Mandra tou Kampiou picnic area (1.3 km from the picnic site).

In the Troodos Forest District, three guided tours will be held. On March 22, 2025 (09:00-13:00), there will be a tour of the "Artemis" nature study trail, starting from the trailhead, 300 meters from the junction of the road to Chionistra with the Troodos - Prodromos road.

On March 23, 2025 (09:00-13:00), there will be a tour of the "Kyparissia" nature study trail, starting from the trailhead, approximately 5 km from the main road from Parekklisia to Kellaki, via dirt roads and forest paths.

Also on March 23, 2025 (09:00-13:00), a tour will take place on the "Xyliatos Dam" nature study trail, starting from the trailhead at Xyliatos Dam, about 2 km south of the village of Xyliatos.

In the Paphos Forest District, on March 22, 2025 (09:00-12:00), there will be a tour of the "Pissouromouti" nature study trail, starting from the Smigion picnic area, 2.5 km west of Neo Chorio, within the Akamas National Forest Park.

Finally, the Department of Forests of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development, and Environment, in observance of the International Day of Forests, invites the public to participate in a cleanup of the coastal forests of Mavralis and Yialia on March 23, 2025 (09:00-12:00).

March 21 has been declared the "International Day of Forests" by the United Nations General Assembly, establishing a common celebration day for all UN member states, aimed at raising further awareness about forests and the need for sustainable management. This year, the UN has adopted the theme "Forests and Food" for the International Day of Forests.

The main event for the International Day will be held at the Athalassa Environmental Education and Training Center on Friday, March 21, 2025, at 11:00 AM. The Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development, and Environment will attend the event and deliver a greeting.
