There is a particular kind of optimism involved in leaving home for “a quick coffee” in a Cyprus village.
You imagine a scenic drive, a little walk, and a sensible return before lunch. Four hours later, you are sitting in a courtyard, ordering something sweet and discussing whether you might as well stay for a drink.
This is not poor time management. This is a successful village outing.
Away from traffic lights, supermarket stops, and the daily hunt for parking, Cyprus’ villages offer a welcome change of pace. You follow a narrow lane, admire a stone doorway, and find a table somewhere that makes checking your phone feel slightly unnecessary.
The coffee is really just the excuse.
What you came for is a little breathing room: conversation without watching the clock, a charming courtyard, and the possibility of dessert. There is always someone who says they don’t want any, then takes three bites of yours. Order accordingly.
Traditional coffee shops, modern cafes, and cozy wine bars give these outings plenty of possibilities. Start with a village stroll, stop wherever takes your fancy, and leave enough room in the schedule for "Shall we have another?”
You don’t need to turn it into an expedition. Pick a village, check opening hours, bring a layer for later, and let the afternoon happen.
The laundry will still be there when you get home. Unfortunately.
