A tragic shipwreck off the coast of Lesbos has left seven people dead and prompted a large-scale rescue operation. In the early hours of Thursday, the Greek Coast Guard responded to a sinking dinghy north of the island. The dinghy, carrying 31 people, had taken on water, and most of the passengers had fallen into the sea. A total of 23 survivors, including 8 men, 4 women, and 11 minors, were rescued and brought to safety at the port of Petra.

The search operation, coordinated by the Hellenic Coast Guard, involved multiple vessels, aircraft, and even private boats. Despite extensive efforts, only seven bodies were recovered, including one man, three women, and three minors. The search continues.

During the investigation, a 20-year-old man was identified as the human trafficker responsible for organizing the journey. He was arrested by authorities. The survivors have been transported to the KARA TEPE migrant facility for further assistance.
